The General Manager for the Geospatial Data Division of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Dr. Dora Kwei Arko, has been appointed as a member of the Global Governing Council, and Corporate Corps for the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network.
The YAWC Network, a non-profit organization, is a confederation of young women of African descent in Africa and in the diaspora, who seek to be empowered and be themselves, change-makers for leadership and development on the continent.
At the heart of its mandate, the Network indulges itself in the mobilisation of women from the grassroots level for leadership and development through advocacy, training and projects.
The appointment of Dr Arko was contained in a letter addressed to her by the Founder and Executive Chairperson of the YAWC Network, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, in which he commended her on her appointment and wished her well in her new roles.
In her roles as a member of the YAWC Global Governing Council and Corporate Corps, Dr Arko will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's short term, medium term and long-term strategic plans.
Her role will include setting goals and objectives and ensuring that they are achieved; analyse impact trends and industry developments to inform strategic decision-making; participating in the review, discussion, and approval of policies and procedures that govern the organisation's operations; as well as ensure policies are aligned with the organization's mission and legal requirements.
About Dr. Arko
Dr Dora Kwei Arko is a self-motivated individual with a keen interest in the building of professional careers through education and work experience.
She is currently a General Manager for the Geospatial Data Division of the Electricity Company of Ghana, where she has, through her industrious service and illustrious career, stood out as a creative leader, a trailblazer, and a mentor to many young men and women from across Ghana and beyond.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration from the Walden University, USA; an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School; a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science; a Diploma in Electrical Engineering; and a number of certifications in Geospatial Technologies from GPSLands, Singapore and other institutions.
She is also an entrepreneur who believes that “the greatest weakness lies in giving up, whilst the greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but rather rising again after a fall” – Thomas Edison.
