The Minister for Local Government and Decentralisation, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, has assured President Nana Akufo-Addo that comprehensive training has been provided for operators, drivers, and technicians involved in the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
This announcement was made during the launch of the initiative at the Black Star Square on Wednesday, July 31.
Minister Adjei Mensah-Korsah highlighted that the training is a crucial step to ensure the effective implementation of DRIP, which aims to enhance road infrastructure across various districts in Ghana.
He emphasised that the personnel have been equipped with the necessary skills to handle the advanced equipment provided through the program, ensuring its optimal use and maintenance.
The Minister commended President Akufo-Addo for his visionary leadership in launching DRIP, describing it as an unprecedented initiative in the history of Ghana.
He noted that the program reflects the president's commitment to empowering district assemblies and improving local infrastructure, which is essential for the country's overall development.
Addressing the gathered officials and stakeholders, Minister Adjei Mensah-Korsah urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to strictly adhere to the procedures outlined for the use of the equipment.
He stressed that following these guidelines is vital to achieving the desired outcomes of the program and ensuring the sustainability of the improvements.
"We have established stringent monitoring controls both digitally and by a well-crafted team made up of stakeholder Ministries and would demand strict compliance. This is to ensure the sustainability of the Programme and the proper use of these equipment."
"Your Excellency with your permission, I wish to charge all MMDCEs and the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and other stakeholders to ensure that the structure for operations, which have been put in place would be strictly adhered to avoid the misuse of the equipment," he said.
