Mr George Obeng, Chairman of the Agona District branch of the Cooperative Transport Union, has asked drivers in the country to observe traffic rules and road signs to ensure an accident-free Christmas, this month.He specifically asked them to avoid over speeding, wrongful overtaking, overloading, taking passengers at unauthorised places and packing at unauthorised places to prevent carnage on the roads.Mr Obeng in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Agona Swedru on Monday, urged book men, station masters and overseers at the various lorry parks to ensure that discipline prevailed there.He cautioned drivers against alcoholism reminding them of the slogan "If you drive don't drink and if you drink don't drive."Mr Obeng advised passengers not to encourage drivers to over speed so that they could reach their destinations early.He cautioned drivers not to take advantage of the Christmas and charge unapproved lorry fares and said those caught would be sanctioned.Mr Obeng asked drivers to report passengers who they might suspect of using their vehicles as avenues to indulge in drug and human trafficking and other criminal activities.Source: GNA
