Drivers of Members of Parliament on Tuesday embarked on a peaceful demonstration at the forecourt of the House to demand higher salaries and improved working conditions.
They threatened to lay down their tools if nothing is done about it.
This was confirmed by Parliament's Director of Public Affairs, Jones Kugblenu in an interview with Joy News’ Evans Mensah. He said however that it was not unusual.
“I heard that some members of that community gathered to express their concerns. And this is not the first time we have had such a peaceful demonstration," he expalined.
Mr Kugblenu said that parliament is not responsible for the engagement of individual drivers, but only assist MPs with some amount of money to take on drivers.
It is only the Leadership of the House that is given official drivers and paid by the Parliamentary Service Board.
He therefore advised the drivers to channel their grievances to the majority and minority leaders for redress.
