The Eastern Regional Security Council (RESEC) has paid a glowing tribute to the late Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Angwubotoge Awuni who died in the early hours of Monday after a short illness.
Council members visited the family of the late police chief Tuesday at his residence in Accra where the regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frempong, signed the book of condolence on behalf of government and the Regional Security Council.
“To us, we have lost a brother, a friend and a colleague. The vacuum created by your sudden death can never be filled. You did not only work for Ghana as a hardworking professional, but you stood for truth, consistency and perseverance," the Minister wrote.
The REGSEC also expressed its deepest condolences to the wife of the late police chief, family and the Ghana Police Service.
DCOP Awuni, a former Director General of the police MTTD died Monday morning at the police hospital.
The police commander has served in diverse roles in the police service.
He was one time a key voice at the Public Relations department of the police service. He also served as police commander in Yendi, Nima, and the Northern Region.
Until his death, he was leading the Eastern Regional Police Command to spearhead Operation ‘Cowleg’ to deal with nomadic herdsmen in the region.
His deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) James Azumah Abass Abaah described him as an exceptional police officer who condoned no wrong doing.
