The Electoral Commissioner has wished the illustrious women of the country a Happy International Women's Day as the world marks the day on March 8.
Jean Mensa said, “ the Electoral Commission recognizes and acknowledges the numerous contributions women have made to our democratization and development process and we applaud and celebrate them on this special occasion.”
The Electoral Commission stands by the United Nations theme for this year: ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate For Change.’
In a statement Thursday, the EC said as Ghana's Election Management Body, it is fully committed to supporting equal rights of both men and women in our electoral process.
“The Electoral Commission pledges to support women to stand as equal partners and empower them to contribute their quota to the building of a humane society in Ghana.
“We charge Ghanaian women to rise up and break the glass ceilings by making a difference in our society through creative and impactful innovations,” it said.
The EC Chair took the opportunity to applaud the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo; wife of the Vice President, Samira Bawumia, female Parliamentarians, ministers, women in the Clergy as well as those Public Service.
Also recognised are female entrepreneurs and business leaders, market women, women in activism and civil society, queen mothers, homemakers and all the women who have contributed to making the country great and strong.
“We recognise and salute all the men who have and continue to champion the cause of women across the country.
“We charge our young women and girls to take up the mantle and rise to the occasion to do exploits. Let's keep the torch burning. Happy International Women's Day,” she concluded.
