Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Assembly, Nii Ephraim has defended an earlier decision not to go ahead with the maiden edition of “we the people”, a Star Ghana/Joy News on Multi TV collaboration last week Tuesday at the AME Zion Church in Winneba.
His excuse was that the Presiding Member, Rev. Eldad Bonney and some of his lieutenants were not around to participate, hence the decision. Security reasons were also mentioned.
Nii Ephraim confirmed that the programme, which borders on governance, transparency and accountability, would be held this Thursday, July 31, 2014.
Last week Tuesday should have seen the launch and start of the programme. It would telecast live, all town hall meetings in five municipal and district assemblies.
They include the Effutu Municipal, Lawra District, Asuogyaman District, Kassena-Nankana West District and the Sunyani Municipal assemblies.
It is also a platform for residents to seek clarifications on implementing the various projects and programmes in the area.
The Coordinating Director, Francis Owusu Ansah, who spoke on behalf of his boss said: “it essentially bordered on security concerns.
"There were serious concerns. We realized that some members of the community were fomenting violence and were being treacherous. This will have derailed the success of the programme.”
