The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alex Afenyo-Markin has urged the government to declare its position on homosexuality in the country.
The Effutu Legislator pointed out that Ghana, unlike Nigeria and Uganda has not been bold enough to take a firm decision on the matter.
He explained that if the country's position on the matter is made known, it will help influence Ghana's laws and education when it comes to the youth.
According to him, it is an undeniable fact that the practice of homosexuality is rapidly becoming a lifestyle for some youth in Ghana with its attendant health risk.
The MP noted that he is "more concerned about the health related effects because people are dying, they are not getting access to healthcare because of stigmatization. I'm saying that if government is so concerned about health related lifestyles then government should look at 'gayism' because it has become a lifestyle."
"Gayism is a reality in Ghana, it is not only in Accra, all over the country. It is the alarming rate which is compelling me to raise this issue that it is important," Alex Afenyo-Markin stressed.
He further noted that "there are a lot of bisexual relationships going on and if government does not take a position, it will be worse. Innocent lives will be affected. The young ones who are coming up, they may grow and see that this is a normal lifestyle, they will get infections, they can't go to hospitals."
The Effutu MP therefore urged that, "If we are against it, then we should come out fully and say that as a country we are against gayism."
