The Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. James Agyenim Boateng has stated that the 2012 elections will be based on issues and not personalities.Mr. Agyenim Boateng was speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs talk show Ekosii Sen on Monday, where he expressed his views about the listening tour campaign strategy that the NPP candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has adopted. The NPP’s flagbearer who is currently touring the Ashanti Region with his campaign team, has decided to meet the electorate to hear from them at first hand, their worries, while assuring them of how he intends to make life comfortable for them if elected President. But Mr. Agyenim Boateng said the NPP’s “listening tour” is no different from President Atta Mills’ “door to door” campaign strategy prior to the 2008 elections when he was candidate for the then opposition NDC.He added that in the last few days, the NPP has tried to project Nana Akufo-Addo as a humble person contrary to what many know him to be.The Deputy Minister further stated that President Mills and his vice, John Mahama, do not pretend or force themselves to be humble; they possess this virtue naturally.According to him, if a decision should be taken that the 2012 elections will be based on personalities, it will be dangerous for other opposition parties to compete with the NDC.He said the NDC has no difficulty in terms of personalities.“The 2012 elections will be based on issues. Issues concerning what the NPP did during their first four years in power and what the NDC’s government has achieved under President Mills’ administration”, Mr. Agyenim Boateng stressed.Story: Dorothy Quaofio/Asempa News/Ghana
