The office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Tain District in the Brong Ahafo Region has been set on fire by unknown arsonists. It is also not clear if the arson has something to do with the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections. There has been misunderstanding in the Tain constituency between members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and those of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where the latter is contending that the constituency result was manipulated to favour the former.A journalist, Kofi Doe Lawson, tells Joy FM the security man on duty detected smoke emanating from the building at about 1am before the building was caught in flame. The fire service stationed at Wenchi was immediately called upon to help put the inferno under control, after several attempts by some onlookers to rescue the situation had failed.“Before the fire service got to the place a lot of damage have been caused. Papers, ballot boxes, the roof of the entire building was set ablaze and everything got burnt, it is now left with the structures - that is the block work,” he says. The security man told our correspondent he suspected some men who came around the building last night as the ones that might have set the building on fire.No arrest has been made so far. The place has been cordoned off while police investigations go on.Story by Isaac Essel
