Eastern Region recorded a total of 8,610 deaths in children under-one year, statistics from the Births and Deaths Registry has indicated.
The highest figures of under-one deaths were recorded in New Juaben Municipality, which had 1,445, Kwahu West, 950, Akuapem North, 875, Akuapem South, 862, Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar, 830 and Kwaebibirem 735.
Akyemmansa, Birim North, Birim South, Kwahu North, Upper Manya and Atiwa recorded figures ranging from zero to 90 whiles the rest of the districts recorded figures ranging from 100 to 400 under one year deaths.
The records also indicated that last year the Region reregistered 56,908 births with 37,489 being under one year and 19,410 being over one year.
Again in 2009, New Juaben Municipal Assembly and Akuapem South recorded the highest figures of under one year of 3,359 and 4,990 respectively followed by Kwaebibirem, Suhum, West Akyem and East Akim and Akuapem North.
Birim Central, Birim North, Lower Manya, Upper Manya, Atiwa and Kwahu West also recorded figures ranging from 1,076 and 1,649 whiles Yilo Krobo recorded the lowest under one year birth of 501.
