The new head of football in Liberia says the game in his country is 'dead'. Musa Hassan Bility, the newly installed president of the Liberian FA (LFA), has called on football's world governing body Fifa to help rebuild the sport. He was due to meet Sepp Blatter, the Fifa president, to discuss the crisis, which has seen the international side and the local club game collapse. "Football is dead in Liberia and we are looking for ways to revive it", Bility declared. "Here is the only African country that has produced a World Player of the Year (George Weah), there has got to be something good about that country. "Unfortunately, the irony is that [Liberia] is one of the least footballing countries in Africa." Liberia's Lone Star are ranked 152 out of 202 in the Fifa global rankings - compared with a highpoint of 66 in 2001. "We believe it's a shame and it's a stain on football and we believe Fifa and Caf can easily listen to us and give us some attention and assistance to help revive the sport," Bility said. He wants financial and technical assistance for the LFA and said he would ask for a two year programme of direct assistance. He said that the LFA was scouting for foreign coaches for the Lone Star but will also try to develop local coaching talent. "Our goal is to first put our house in order, become a formidable force and take the country to the next African Nations Cup," he said. Coaching standards will be enforced within the Liberian league structure, according to the LFA President - but registration fees for local clubs will be waived for two years. Source: BBC
