President of the Ghana Football Association Kwasi Nyantakyi is calling for calm after FIFA awarded African champions Zambia three points and three goals in the 2014 World Cup qualifying Group D.
Zambia won a protest against Sudan for fielding an unqualified player during their world cup qualifying game which Sudan won 2-0 in June.
This means that the Black stars are now three points behind leaders Zambia and must now win their remaining four matches to make it a third successive appearance at the World Cup finals to be hosted by Brazil.
According to Mr. Nyantakyi the Black Stars faces a tough task ahead but is optimistic they can surmount the challenge.
“We want to remain as focus as ever and try to win all the games ahead of us. We win all our matches and then we are on top of our group with good scoreline”.
“The players thought it wasn’t fair. They thought that winning points in the boardroom was not the best way of deciding winners in football and that we must all win points from the field of play".
“Unless the facts are overwhelmingly in favour of such a position, they will not welcome it.
“They also thought that it was going to give free points to a team because they haven’t worked for the points and that doesn’t appear to be fair.
He added: “That notwithstanding we’ve discussed and explained to the players that we must just go ahead and win our games. “
“They must all redouble their efforts. They have to tune their minds and build their psyche stronger than before because the obstacles ahead are now going to be more difficult than we previously knew.”
The Black Stars next assignment in the 2014 World Cup qualifier will be against Sudan at home on March 3, 2012.
