The Federation of African Engineering Organization (FAEO), has elected another Ghanaian Engineer, Ing. Leslie Alex Ayeh to serve on its 5-member Board, following the endorsement of the General Assembly of the Federation to serve a 2-year term, 2023-2024.
This brings to two, Ghanaian Engineers serving on the board after a successful tenure of Ing. Carlien Bou-Chedid as the President of the Federation for the past two years. Ing. Carlien was the President of FAEO from 2021-2022 and she is now the Immediate Past President (IPP) of FAEO and a member of the Board.
Ing. Leslie Alex Ayeh (Immediate Past President of West African Federation of Engineering Organization (WAFEO) was elected to the FAEO Board to serve a two-year term as Treasurer of the Board.
Ing. Carlien Bou-Chedid is a Past President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Immediate Past President of FAEO. She is an Independent Consulting Structural/Earthquake Engineer with over 35years experience, covering engineering design and supervision, project management, corporate governance and professional education of engineers. She went to Wesley Girls High School.
She holds a BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey, UK (1983) and a DIC and MSc (Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics) from the Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine, UK (1999).
Ing. Leslie Alex Ayeh is the Immediate Past President (IPP) of the GhIE. He is also the IPP of WAFEO and Governing Council member of GhIE.
He is a Transportation Engineer with over 42 years experience. He is the Senior Partner of Ayeh & Ayeh, an Engineering Consulting firm on several aviation projects in Ghana and a number of road projects in Western and East Africa.
He is currently the consulting engineer for the feasibility studies for the construction of a major cargo airport in the Central region.
He was educated at Achimota School and St. Augustine’s College and proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi to pursue a degree in engineering. He has participated in training programs organised by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE/T&DI/FAA) on Airport design.
Other members on the board include: Eng. Papias Kazawadi from Rwanda (President of FAEO), Ing. Refilwe Buthelezi, President of the Engineering Council of South Africa (President-Elect of FAEO) and Engr. Ovens Ehimatie as Executive Director of FAEO.
The endorsement of these five-member Board took place at the 8th African Engineering Week and 6th African Engineering Conference which was held successfully under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Africa Together” at the Science Museum, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with over 600 engineering participants from 21 countries of Africa.
The opening ceremony was graced by the President of the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde and subsequent events were attended by notable serving Ministers of the country, such as Dr. Abreham Belay, Minister of Defense; Muferiat Kamil, Minister of Works and Skills; Eng. Aysha Mohammed, Minister of Irrigation and Low lands; Assegid Getachew, State Minister of Labor and Skills; Dr. Samuel Kifle, State Minister of Education and Eng. Khalid Abdurahman, State Minister of Infrastructure at the Prime Minister’s Office.
