The authorities at the Police Hospital have family of the murdered Nigerian to apply for a waver of the mortuary fees before the corpse can be given to them.
According to the authorities if the application comes in good time, the corpse would be released to the family on Wednesday.
There has been a standoff between some Nigerians and authorities at the police hospital over the body of a Nigerian who was murdered by his girlfriend.
Management of the mortuary demanded about a $1,000 from the family of the deceased as mortuary fees.
But that amount the Nigerians said was too exorbitant and will, therefore, not pay.
The aggrieved Nigerians staged a protest at the hospital demanding the immediate release of the corpse.
They argued they had already paid $300 to hospital and deserved to be given the corpse for burial.
The President of Niger Delta Association in Ghana said they could not pay the additional $1000 because “we think money is on the high side”.
“We don’t have that amount of money; it is a corpse, what do we do with it, if they refused as burring it we will leave it for them; at the end of the day the authorities would do mass burial…we want to leave our brother and go.”
