A 45-year-old farmer, Ekiengma Brigam, of Lipul near Saboba, in the Saboba District of the Northern Region, has been remanded in prison custody for murdering his 35 years old wife, Abena Ngabin. The man hit her several times on the head with a cudgel. According to the prosecutor at a Yendi Circuit Court, the suspect Brigam is a farmer living with his late wife and four children at Lipul. The prosecutor, Inspector Kingsley Addah, said on 17th April this year, the suspect went to his farm with his wife and as they were working on the farm, the suspect went behind the deceased and struck the back of her head several times with the cudgel killing her instantly. He then hid the weapon under a tree and attempted to flee after the act. Mr. Addah said a witness, who was the sister of the deceased came visiting and decided to follow up to the farm to meet her. On his way he met the accused, who passed him by and when he got to the farm he saw the lifeless body of her sister. The prosecutor said the sister then rushed to the village and informed them of what she had seen and a search party was dispatched by the chief to look for the accused. He was spotted around Garinkuka, near Chereponi and was arrested to the chief’s palace and later handed over to the Saboba police. According to the prosecutor during interrogation, the suspect claimed that sometime during the first week of April, this year, he consulted a soothsayer about his future and was revealed to him that his wife will embark on a journey and on her return, he the suspect, will experience misfortunes so he should try and stop her from going. He said from that time onwards, the deceased started moving around the villages during the night and he warned her to stop, but she refused. He said on 17th April 2013, whilst on the farm, he did not know what came over him and he killed his wife and attributed his action to Satan. According to the prosecutor he was brought before the Yendi Circuit Court and the Judge, His Lordship Justice Jerome Noble Nkrumah remanded him in prison custody to re-appear on May 24, 2013. The body of the deceased has since been released to the family.
