Residents of Hohoe, especially those within the Muslim community are said to have resumed their flight out of the town following the burning of two houses this dawn in an apparent breach of the curfew there. The dusk to dawn curfew was imposed to avert further violence after three people were killed in clashes between indigenes loyal to the Chief of Gbi, Togbe Gaabusu and Muslim youth there. The residents say they fear the already volatile situation could worsen as a result of the latest development and are therefore packing out. A native of the Gbi Traditional area, Nelson Asiamah is calling for effective security especially at Bla where he says irate youth are still destroying properties. Mr. Asiamah who spoke to Joy FM Volta regional correspondent, Agbeko Ben Coffie fears the situation could get out of control. Mr Asiamah, who has been shielding some Muslims said the situation was becoming dangerous. He said there was no semblance of security presence at Bla and that when the arsonists came to burn one of the houses, he pleaded with them in vain to reconsider their action. He said he was spared because he is an indigene, adding that he was accused of being a traitor. The violence is said to have seriously disrupted business activities and most public sector workers who find themselves living within Muslim communities are relocating to hotels. Aminu Mohamed who is a Community Health Planning Nurse at Fodome Woe, is equally worried and is pleading for peace. The General Officer Commanding the Southern Command, Major General Martin Ahiaglo has arrived to meet stakeholders today as a follow up to the National Chief Imam’s visit there yesterday in another attempt to calm nerves. Agbeko Ben Coffie who is closely monitoring events there and said many residents of the area do not seem to know of the curfew. He said it takes the security officials to chase people to observe the curfew.
