There was tension Wednesday at the Christian Mission Church at the Mallam Market in Accra during evening church service when some suspected land guards stormed the church to brutalize some members.
The Senior Pastor of the Ghana Branch of the church, Apostle Stephen Y. Onyina, is alleged to have brought land guards to brutalize some church members, leading to the injury of two of the victims, George Kwasi Asare and Abraham Ussher.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa News, a victim, Mr. Kwasi Asare explained that the issue arose when the General Overseer, Bishop Abraham Bediako, who was then in Hamburg requested the Ghana Branch pastor, Apostle Stephen Onyina, to send 10% of the church’s proceeds to him in Hamburg.
That request, he explained, did not go down well with Apostle Onyina who wrote back to the Bishop that he had taken over the church. After a month of waiting, Bishop Bediako showed up at the church premises only to be met with armed police.
The matter, according to Kwasi Asare, has been determined by a court which indicated that the two men of God take turns to administer service at the church.
He said on November 3, the bishop whose turn it was to preach, was prevented by Apostle Onyina.
A photographer who took pictures of the incident, Abraham Ussher was brutalized by the land guards.
General Overseer, Bishop Abraham Bediako confirmed the story to Asempa News and said he was yet to meet the victims. The Odorkor Division Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Barfuor, confirmed the brutalities and said investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile Apostle Onyina, who is the center of the controversy, was not available for comment.
