Some final-year students of the University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) in Accra have been told to rewrite the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) before they would be awarded their university degrees. The students are said to have been admitted into the university with poor grades which should not have allowed the entry in the first place, including grades as low as aggregate 29. The university’s demand for them to retake the WASSCE is said to be on the instruction of the National Accreditation Board. But the students would have none of this. The Public Relations Officer of the National Accreditation Board, Richard Adjei told Joy News the students who fall short of the general university entry requirements must re-sit the WASSE before they will be allowed to graduate. He said the NAB has therefore proposed that within a year the authorities of UCOMS must ensure that the students meet the requirements as ordered. Source: Joy News/Ghana
