First lady Lordina Mahama is asking managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme to allow persons with autoimmunity – a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue - to access the scheme.
The first lady said because of the high cost of treatment and medications for the condition, sufferers need to be assisted by the state.Mrs Mahama made the call when she joined health NGO ShareCare-Ghana to celebrate their 5th Anniversary here in Accra.She pledged to support on-going discussions between the Noguchi Institute and the NHIA to recognise that autoimmunity deserves attention.
