The World Bank Ghana Office and SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana, in collaboration with Stanbic Bank, JOY 99.7 FM and other partners are organising a series of activities with the theme: Harnessing Football for Peace and Development.
As part of the activities, a Development Dialogue Series is planned for Tuesday December 18, 2007 at the British Council Hall, Accra. This event will seek to promote a vibrant discourse on development policy choices related to the theme and will be aired live on JOY FM from 10:00 am to 12 noon.
About 300 participants drawn from a cross-section of the Ghanaian public will attend, and a presentation will be made by Dr Bella Bello Bitugu, Co-Recipient of 2006 World Cup FIFA Fair Play Award on behalf of World Cup 2006 Fans.
A statement signed by Country Director of the World Bank Ghana Office, Ishac Diwan said among critical questions to be raised are How can Football be used to promote Peace and Development? How can Football be used to promote the rights of children and provide access to opportunities for a bright future? How can Football stars, coaches and administrators promote development in their communities?
