The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has ordered food chains and restaurants in the areas to undergo partial lockdown to operate only through pick-up and delivery services.
At a press conference on Sunday, the Authority’s CEO, Akwasi Agyeman indicated that the directive is to follow the public gathering Imposition of Restriction Act, 2020 as part of measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Among the directives to operators in the hospitality industry, Mr Agyeman said all drinking bars, night clubs, and pubs within the specified areas should remain closed until the lockdown is over.
“They must remain closed and the emphasis is on closed,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, hotels and guest houses can continue to operate and host their guests however, their services should be open to only the resident guests and not external visitors.
“Their staff will be provided special passes by National Security, which must be worn in addition to their normal IDs,” he added.
He then urged all facilities which will remain open during the partial lockdown to adhere to the precautionary measures in their operations to prevent the spread of the infection.
These directives come after President Nana Akufo-Addo in a televised national address on Friday imposed restriction on movement in the Greater Accra Region, some parts of Central Region and the Greater Kumasi metropolis effective Monday 1 am.
The partial lockdown is to last for two weeks subject to review.
