Football Fables, an intriguing documentary of the inner workings of Ghanaian football migration onto international scene is set for release Monday, 28th March in the United Kingdom.
Directed by Baff Akoto, a product of London's Ravensbourne and born to Ghanaian parents, the documentary was honoured with the Golden Knight Awards for Best Feature Screenplay and Best Foreign Feature.
There will be a special screening of the film at Brixton’s Ritzy cinema in South London on March 27, and it will be followed by a Q&A session with the director, Baff Akoto hosted by Little White Lies.
The 52-minute documentary features an African football history mini-feature, Interviews with Ghanaian and Sunderland/Inter Milan star, Sulley Muntari, Ghana and Blackpool goalkeeper, Richard Kingson and Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazalian World Cup winning manager.
Football Fables takes a closer look at how young Africans come to the attention of Real Madrid or Manchester United, lifting the lid on the inner workings of Ghanaian football migration.
The documentary unfolds through the eyes of Francis, a talented teenager on the brink of a dream transfer.
His talent is undoubted, his desire immeasurable, but will that be enough to secure his future? Francis’ journey sheds light on the middlemen who earn a living making sure their cream rises to the top. A system which (although far from perfect and in spite of itself) produces some of the best players in the world.
Baff Akoto holds a colourful youth as a door-to-door salesman, strip cabaret DJ and haute cuisine chef giving him a distinct view of the world which is evident throughout his work.
He is currently directing his first TV drama for Channel 4 (to be aired in late 2011) and is also developing his first narrative feature film.
