The former Hohoe MP, Bernice Heloo, and a philanthropic organisation, Pencils of Promise, have joined forces to construct a six-unit classroom block for the Hohoe Gborxome Municipal Assmebly Basic School. 

This comes as a great relief for students and teachers of the deprived school which is suffering inadequate infrastructure and furniture. 

The primary department of the Hohoe Gborxome Basic School was housed under a deplorable structure. 

This informed a decision by the school's management to appeal to Madam Heloo to construct a befitting structure for the school. 

The appeal resulted in former MP and Pencils of Promising collaborating to construct a 6-unit classroom block. 

She explained that she had to call on the philanthropic institution since her share of the MP’s Common Fund would not be able to finance the project. 

She was hopeful the enhanced facility would contribute to the improvement of the academic performance of the students.

She thanked all those who supported the project saying their help couldn't have come at a better time. 

On his part, Freeman Gobah, the Country Director of Pencils of Promise, listed five other schools in the Hohoe Municipality where the organisation had constructed classroom blocks.

He explained that they would be compelled to move to the rural area in Hohoe to help equally deprived schools in the future. 

He indicated that the classroom block for the Hohoe Gborxome Municipal Assmebly Basic School has been furnished with a water reservoir, 500 mono desks, 540 chairs and 14 tables for the kindergarten department, and seven tables and chairs for teachers. 

He assured his organisation’s commitment to improving education in the Volta and Oti Regions and  outlined their efforts to simplify the new educational curriculum for teachers. 

Emmanuel Wassan, the headteacher of the school thanked both the former MP and NGO for their support.

He appealed for a sanitary facility and extra infrastructure since a portion of the school is accommodated under a wooden structure.

The Hohoe New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Anthony Kondobrey, assured Mr Wassan of Hohoe MP , John Peter Amewu’s commitment to the development of the school. 

He said the MP would contribute his quota towards the second phase of the development project in the Hohoe Gborxome MA Basic School.
