Private University Founders Association, Ghana (PUFA-Ghana) has been chosen as the name of the newly formed association for owners, founders and chancellors of private universities in Ghana.
This was after a meeting held on Tuesday, January 31 at the North Legon Campus of Wisconsin International University College (WIUC), Ghana .
Members of the Association arrived at the decision after a closed-door meeting purposely held to make deliberations on the name, logo, constitution and leadership.

The Association was formed as a community for owners, founders and chancellors of private universities to collaborate and advocate for their interests.
Founder of WIUC and Acting Spokesperson for the Association, Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, revealed that the meeting failed to conclude on a constitution for the Association.
A new date has therefore been set for final deliberations.
“After we approve it (the constitution), the private universities will sign to the constitution and we shall have our elections for executives to run the Association,” he stated.

He added that the North Legon Campus of Wisconsin International University College will serve as the temporary monthly meeting place for the Association while registration and formal processes begin on Monday, February 6.
The Association also admitted the Accra College of Medicine and the Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design-Design Institute Africa (JACCD), thus increasing membership to 12 private universities.

Representative of JACCD, Akosua Koranteng Adayi in an interview with MyJoyOnline said her expectation of the Association is to “have a strong mouthpiece to be able to bring forth policies and other issues that relate to private universities and provide a platform of network for founders.”
“Being able to come together to network and to have a common vision to ensure the sustainability and success of private education in Ghana is key and the right way to go,” she said.
The Association is scheduled to meet again on February 7, 2023.
