The Chief Executive Officer of the French telecommunications operator France Telecom, Didier Lombard says government is taking too long to finally decide on who wins the final bid to buy Ghana Telecom.
Mr. Lombard who was speaking at a conference in Barcelona last Friday said his company is keen on taking a stake in the privatization of the country's national telecom carrier Ghana Telecom (GT).
He was confident that his company has satisfied the major requirements to win the bid.
But he noted that the process is going through so many steps compared to what France Telecom has to fulfill to buy over 51 per cent shares in Telkom Kenya for some 391 million dollars.
The successful bidder of GT is expected to float at least 30 per cent shares of the company on the stock exchange, have not less than 1 million subscribers, have an African presence and must have a solid management team capable of improving staff efficiency, culture and effectiveness.
Information gathered by Joy Business Report indicates that France Telecom seem to stand tall among Vodacom and Portugal Telecom, the last three companies that have been short-listed from six others. But the sources say the final decision still lies with the government.
