The National Democratic Congress has pledged its unflinching support for the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Betty Mould Iddrisu. The Attorney General has come under fire for losing high profile cases with the most recent being the striking out and discharge of Kwodwo Mpiani, ex Chief of Staff and Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby the Chief Executive of the erstwhile Ghana@50 Secretariat both of who were charged with willfully causing financial loss to the state. The state had earlier lost cases involving former Foreign Affairs Minister Akwasi Osei Adjei, wife of former Information Minister Zuleika Asamoah Boateng. These string of defeat had angered some members of the ruling party and who called for her resignation. But in a sharp rebuttal, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress Dr. Kwabena Adjei told newsmen on Tuesday the party has absolute confidence in Betty Mould Iddrisu. “I think President Atta Mills and the government didn’t appoint Hon Betty Mould Iddrisu for nothing and I don’t think she works as a sole person,” he told Joy News’ Hannah Odame after the press conference. He said the unwarranted criticisms will put undue pressure on the A-G, and make her “do things we think is right when those things are not right.” “Leave her alone to do the work according to democratic principles to ensure that the rule of natural justice apply," he said. He cautioned against stampeding the Attorney General and the judicial system into putting people into prison, insisting that the judicial justice in all cases must stand the test of time. Dr Adjei said the role of the Attorney General is not to put people behind bars at all cost but to seek justice for all. “Our NDC people in particular, if the NPP people want to do it they can go ahead and do it, but our NDC people must leave Betty Mould Iddrisu alone to proceed at her pace to use [her] legal brains and those of others to make sure that justice is delivered," he said.
