The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghana Police Service have begun developing new Sports Safety and Security training modules to be incorporated into the training curriculum for new police recruits.
A consultative meeting was held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Police Headquarters to finalize the process.
This initiative follows an earlier announcement by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) during a joint meeting with the GFA and Premier League clubs on February 5, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service will immediately introduce sports policing into its training curriculum.
As part of the implementation process, Julius Ben Emunah, Head of Competitions and a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Certified Safety and Security trainer met with the leadership of the National Police Training School (NPTS) to finalize the training content and modules.
The meeting was attended by ACP Mike Baah, Commanding Officer of NPTS, Chief Superintendent Charles Asiamah Agyei, Director of the HR Department, DSP Richard Wieking Welleh, Staff Officer at NPTS, ASP Festus Addo, Training Officer at NPTS, and Chief Inspector Kwadwo Mensah, an instructor at NPTS.
Discussions focused on proposed content from both the GFA and the Ghana Police Service, which will be compiled into a standardized manual for use in all six Police Training Schools across the country.
To further enhance the program, Emunah and another CAF Certified Safety and Security trainer, Captain (Rtd) Nick Owusu, will conduct a series of Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops for selected instructors in the coming days.
Additionally, the Ghana Police Service will benefit from the CAF Safe Stadium program, which the GFA will host in September 2025.
Both the GFA and the Ghana Police Service have reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative, ensuring that current police recruits gain practical experience by working at matches under police supervision before graduating.
