THE Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, Hon S.K. Boafo will on Saturday, February 17, 2007 be the Guest of Honour at the first ever Ghana Actors’ Guild Awards, which will take place at the National Theatre in Accra.
Awards would be given in several categories including Best Feature Film, Best TV Mini Series, Best Soap Opera, Best Stage Theatre, Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Director, Best Talent and Best Script among others.
According to the President of the Ghana Actors Guild, Nii Odoi Mensah, the aim of the awards ceremony, which has the theme “Actors Value – Growing Business Through Entertainment” is to celebrate merit and achievement, honour new talent as well as promote Ghanaian films and film- making in general.
He said it is also meant to create an enabling environment for industry players and stakeholders from all spheres of the entertainment industry to nicer, interact and share ideas adding that this would go a long way to ensure smooth growth in the Ghanaian entertainment scene.
It is expected that the awards ceremony rejuvenate theatre in Ghana, while equally benefiting all sectors of the film and video industry, broadcasting houses, studio operators, corporate institutions, manufacturers, advertising and marketing institutions and businessmen since it will ensure dialogue and facilitate the need for co-productions.
Sefi Communications and Events are managing the awards ceremony, which is being sponsored by Charter House, Nulec, Pepsi, Regency Hotel, Gihoc Distilleries, Nankani Electronic Image and Coca Cola. Media partners are TV Africa, GTV, TV3, Hot FM, Peace FM, Adorn FM and Radio Gold.
