The Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman of Anator Holding Company Limited Mr. Alfred Woyome believes Ghana can be the second African country to host the FIFA world cup in 2026 after South Africa hosted it this year.
The World Cup is coming back to Africa in the next sixteen years and Ghana can be the second African nation to host it.
According to him, hosting the world cup is a huge opportunity for any nation who wins the bid to put up development projects, stating that most countries capitalized on such opportunities like hosting Olympic Games to make it.
He further explained that they create the chances for countries to build their infrastructures to a standard of developed nations and help raise the standard of living of their citizens.
“Ghana is in a good position to host the World Cup but it is just that we have not realized it and we all think it is impossible but I believe it is something when we plan very well we can execute.
"We have to believe in what we want to do and implement a good development plan for the next sixteen years where we can spend about 22 million dollars to host the world cup.”
Speaking on Asempa FM’s sports morning show on Wednesday, Mr. Alfred Woyome stated that with the massive advantage Ghana has in terms of its democracy in the African continent, wining the bid to host the 2026 World Cup, which he strongly believes will be in Africa, can be a possibility.
“What people are afraid of is how we are going to finance this huge project when we are been given the chance to host, I understand but one thing we all have to know is that when you win the bid to host the world cup cooperate bodies and both international and local organizations expresses interest in associating themselves and through this we can even pay back loans even before the end of the tournament which the profit then becomes that of the country.”
He added that the only opportunity to do this is to bid for it, and hoped South Africa with their experience, and with the support of other countries Ghana can win the bid.
He said the government of the day would have to bring together all kinds of expertise to explore this subject. He was hopeful the country can even perform better than South Africa.
