Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has won his appeal against an order to pay Fenerbahce two million euros in compensation over the termination of his contract.Appiah quit the Turkish club in August 2008 in a row over the treatment he had received on a serious knee injury which had kept him out for nine months up to that point.The injury kept him out of the African Nations Cup in his home country earlier that year.The issue ended up in court when Appiah appealed against a ruling to pay Fenerbahce compensation.But a statement from Appiah’s agents confirmed the case had been resolved in the player’s favour.“The CAS has decided to overturn FIFA’s decision to order Stephen Appiah to pay compensation to his former club, Fenerbahce,” said a statement from the Base Soccer Agency.“Appiah was originally ordered to pay Fenerbahce compensation of over two million euros following the termination of his contract in 2008.“Both parties appealed the decision to the CAS, with Fenerbahce claiming over 12 million euros in compensation.“However, following a hearing in Lausanne in April 2010, the CAS agreed with Appiah’s argument that any compensation payable by him is outweighed by the savings made by the club through not having to pay the remainder of his contract.”Appiah had joined Fener in 2005 in an eight million euro deal to move from Juventus, and enjoyed a successful first season as he helped the club win the league title.The 29-year-old, who is with Ghana at the World Cup, took over a year to find a new club after leaving Turkey, failing to earn contracts after trials with both Tottenham and Rubin Kazan before signing with Bologna in November last year.Source: Ghanasoccernet.com
