From the throes of division one football just a season ago, Aduana Stars have been crowned champions of Ghana’s Glo Premier League.
They needed to win against Berekum Arsenals and hope Ashgold would lose against Beechem Chelsea in the last round of matches to make history. The gods, apParently, were listening for after pipping Arsenal, hot favourites Ashgold who needed just a draw to clinch the title, suffered a humiliating 1:0 loss to a 10-man Bechem Chelsea.
One goal to nil it ended in favour of Aduana at Dormaa to ensure a historic Premier League victory for Aduana.
The Dormaa club have amassed a total of 53 points, same as title contenders Ashgold but have a superior head-to-head record against the miners.
Elsewhere Accra Great Olympics joined the two Western Region clubs, Hasaacas and Sekondi Eleven Wise for relegation and to the doldrums of Division One.
Kotoko at their Baba Yara Sports Stadium fortress had no mercy for the side already down and hammered Accra Great Olympics by 5 goals to 1.
Heart of Lions and Accra Hearts of Oak rediscovered their scoring boots on the final day at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium and pummeled each other to a haul of 11 goals, however it was the visitors who had the lion's share of the goals and left the Phobians in disarray.
Lions have thus joined the Phobians, Aduana Stars and Ashgold for a raving top four finish.
Kessben beat King Faisal 2-1 at the Anane Boateng park at Abrankese with RTU recording a similar scoreline against relegated Hasaacas.
New Edubiase pipped Liberty Professionals by a goal whilst Eleven Wise shared the spoils with Wa All Stars in a 1-1 game.
