The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), on Wednesday December 19, 2012, announced the discovery of the Pecan-1 exploration well, located in the Deepwater Tano/Cape Three Points Block offshore Ghana.
This discovery encountered 245 net feet (75 meters) of oil pay in two separate Turonian intervals.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 15,420 feet in water depth of 8,245 feet.
There have been four earlier discoveries in the block. These are Almond, 50 net feet (15 meters) oil pay, Beech, 145 net feet (44 meters) oil pay, Hickory North, 100 net feet (30 meters) gas condensate pay and
Paradise, 120 net feet (37 meters) of oil pay and 300 net feet (92 meters) of gas condensate pay.
According to Mr. Thomas Manu, the Director of Operations, “The Pecan-1 oil discovery and the four other discoveries have significantly increased the hydrocarbon reserves of the block”.
Mr. Manu further stated that appraisal work on this discovery will start in 2013.
Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has 10-percent carried interest in the Deepwater Tano Block and Hess has the remaining 90 percent interest.
