Ing. Kwaku Boampong has been sworn in as the 46th President of the Ghana Institution of Engineers.

He took over from Ing. Magnus L. Quarshie.

The 46th Presidential inauguration and Gala Banquet took place on March 28, 2015 at the Tamale Sports Stadium in the Northern Region.

Ing. Kwaku Boampong, Deputy Chief Executive of ABP Consult Limited, holds a BSc. (Hon) Degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Preparation and Evaluation from the Economic Institute of Belgrade, Yugoslavia as well as an MBA Degree  from the University of Baltimore, USA.

Ing. Boampong who is a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Maryland, USA,  is also a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, (MASCE), as well as a Chartered Engineer and Corporate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK from 1988 t0 2010.

 Ing. Kwaku Boampong became a Corporate Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers in 1987 and was elected Fellow of the institution in 2012.

He has served the Institution in the following positions: Member of the Civil Technical Committee, Professional Interview Panelist, a Councilor and Chairman of Conference Committee, Vice President and Honorary Treasurer.

He has over Thirty Seven (37) years post-graduation experience in civil engineering. He has worked as Project Director, Team Leader and Resident Engineer on a number of major projects with responsibilities including highway designs, storm drainage designs, reviewing and preparing contract drawings, preparing special specifications, bidding and pre-qualification dossiers, bid evaluation and negotiations leading to award of contracts, construction supervision and contract management.

He has worked in Ghana, Nigeria and the United States of America. Ing. Boampong has also participated in a number of Project Management training courses and international conferences.

Delivering his inaugural address under the theme: “Developing the Next Generation Engineer” Ing. Boampong stated that there are three primary strategies that the GhIE must continue to pursue in order to sustain and expand.

These are; developing programs that will generate interest in engineering at the basic level, especially in High Schools, ensuring that the next generation of our professionals are trained and mentored to keep pace with the growth and complexity of our infrastructural development, focusing not only on sustainability but also on its resiliency and continuing to encourage young professionals to pursue excellence in the practice of their profession, thereby discouraging unethical behavior.

Ing. Boampong also spoke on the infrastructure score card where he stated that the Institution’s offer to collaborate with SADA during the Engineering Week Celebration in Tamale last Month, to achieve its main objective of providing the necessary sustainable infrastructure for the development of the SAVANNAH geographical area of the country was in the right direction”.

He continued that, The GhIE Council has set out to develop an Infrastructure Report Card, based on a model developed by the American Society of Civil Engineers, for some of the nation’s infrastructure. The Council has already started looking for financial support for the implementation of the program.

He also spoke on the need for the Council of the Institution to begin to document its history and heritage as part of its preparation towards the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Ghana Institution of Engineers:

The event also witnessed the swearing-in of Council members for the 2015/2016 council year as well as conferring of Fellows and honorary on Members of the Institution.
