The Ghana Premier League is unequivocally one of the oldest elite leagues in Africa.
It has churned out quite a number of amazing talents across the world. The domestic top-tier division league which started in 1956 was ranked 11th best in Africa and also chalked 65th position in the world’s best leagues in the first decade of the 21st century according to International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
As though that isn’t enough, Africa’s Club of the 20th century was conferred on Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the league’s record title holders.
In addition, Hearts of Oak - another club from the local league - won the CAF Champions League without tasting defeat in the 2000s, a feat second to none.
The maiden edition of CAF Confederation Cup also pitted the two local league heavyweights in the league as they squared off in the grand finale.
The list of achievements of this prestigious league is the envy of rival countries. It's indubitable successes are clear for all to see.
Despite the league’s beautiful unending accolades, it’s sad (if not pathetic) to conceive the fact that in recent times, the once exciting league is losing its fervour.
The current state of the league is a sad spectacle of a local tournament that is bereft of a befitting and deserving spectatorship and somewhat lacking the massive euphoria once associated with - thus inciting the angst of many a dear fan.
So what next?
A group of young and avid followers of the league have pooled their resources together and are bent on resurrecting the dying Ghana Premier League, hence the birth of ‘Ghana League Cypher’.
Ghana League Cypher is a video podcast (online show) which would solely focus on the domestic league and its analysis every weekend precisely Sunday nights.
Each episode would be made available for downloads. Sports analysts and other connoisseurs, as well as stakeholders of the game, would star every now and then.
The show would be anchored and hosted by the recipient of the 2013/2014 Best Journalist in Innovation and Commitment to the Ghana premier league(English award ), George Addo Jnr of Multimedia Ghana, in conjunction with his backroom staff.

Reviews and previews will surely be a regular feature of the show.
The fifteen-minute magazine is scheduled to hit major online platforms including Myjoyonline.com and leading Sports websites in Ghana and beyond, starting from April 12, 2015.
