Ghanaians in Ireland will have to put on their best behaviors or risk facing the wrath of Irish authorities with no help from the Ghana mission.
This is because the Ghana mission in Ireland has been shut down for non performance.
The move is part of a directive issued by President John Atta Mills to Foreign Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni for all non performing Ghana missions abroad to be shut down, and Ghana’s mission in Ireland was the first casualty.
In an interview with Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni said the directive is to cut back on government’s expenditure on maintaining non performing missions abroad.
He said the government is keen on shutting down all missions abroad that fail to meet the “foreign relations agenda that is people centred,” and was not functioning to the expectations of the president.
He opined Ghana will have to make the best out of the meager resources at its disposal, and believed the closure of the Dublin mission was in the best interest of the country.
On the contrary government will open new missions abroad where the national interest will be better served and in the country’s seen to have potential for Ghanaian residents.
Consequently, a new mission has been opened in Dubai which the Foreign Minister said is increasingly becoming a world market place and a hub for travels for many Ghanaians.
He hinted government might close other missions abroad and at the same time open several others, depending on the performance of the existing missions or the potential available in other countries which have no foreign relations with Ghana.
Diplomats and staff of the closed missions will be redeployed to other missions, Alhaji Mumuni declared.
