The Chief Executive Officer of Vokacom has revealed that Ghana Post has raked in profit after over a decade, following the introduction of the Ghana Post GPS application.

Mr Nana Osei Kwesi Afrifa says the features of the mobile application which include, providing users with their digital addresses, giving directions and traffic reports have aided Ghana post secure partnership with other companies.

“Ghana Post has made a profit for the first time in over 10 years over the past two years,” Mr Afrifa told host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Daniel Dadzie, Monday.

He explained that the GPS feature which aids users by giving directions has facilitated working relationships with international delivery company DHL and online shop, Jumia.

“We expect to have more than 50,000 deliveries this Christmas alone when Jumia holds the Black Friday. It is Ghana Post that does the delivery, it is not Jumia,” Mr Afrifa said.

Ghana Post GPS is a global addressing system, which divides Ghana into grids of 5m x 5m squares and assigns each one a unique address, known as a digital address. With this system, every land and property gets a permanent address.

The application was developed by Vokacom, a Ghanaian Information Technology (IT) which recently won this year’s World Global SME Award for Best Business Model and special recognition for ‘Excellence in providing and promoting innovative ICT solutions with Social Impact’  at the annual ITU word awards.

The Vokacom CEO described the Ghana Post GPS as an “add on” to the original Digital address system Platform where Ghanaians could get the addresses of their location.

“DHL is doing deliveries but it is Ghana Post that is doing the deliveries on their behalf. There is a lot going on in the Ghana Post because of the Digital Address,” he said.

Speaking further, he stated that plans are far advanced to partner with and to incorporate Google’s features and consequentially, Uber.

According to him, there is a lot more confidence and buzz about the application and a lot more companies have expressed believe in it.

Some people have testified to the Ghana Post app helping in the fight against crime by using it’s GPS functions.

Recently, a victim who identified himself as Nana Appiah posted on Facebook how his attacker was tracked by using the Ghana Post GPS App.

Launched in October 2017, the app comes with panic buttons which help to communicate to the Police, Fire and Ambulance services in the case of imminent danger to aid timely response to distress calls that hit their devices with digital addresses for easy location.
