President John Dramani Mahama says Ghana is ready to sell electric power which will be generated from gas from the Jubilee oil field to Burkina Faso. Consequently, he said, Ghana and Burkina Faso had agreed to hold a joint economic management committee meeting to discuss the modalities for the supply of electric power. President Mahama was speaking in a joint press briefing with President Blaise Compaore at the Presidential Palace in Ouagadougou. That was after they had held a closed-door meeting. President Mahama was in Burkina Faso for a day's friendly and working visit. He was met on arrival at the Ouagadougou International Airport by the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Mr Luc Adolphe Tiao, ministers of state and army chiefs. A guard of honour was mounted for him. President Mahama said Ghana and Burkina Faso already had several projects to interconnect the transmission grid. He said work on the gas infrastructure was progressing steadily, and indicated that “Ghana is ready to share the power from the gas with Burkina Faso". He congratulated President Compaore on his role in mediating conflicts in the sub-region. He said President Compaore was instrumental in peace efforts in Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea and Mali. President Mahama reiterated Ghana's commitment to play her role in maintaining peace and stability in the sub-region. He thanked President Compaore and the people of Burkina Faso for their show of love and support during the funeral of the late President Mills. President Compaore said Burkina Faso cherished its relations with Ghana and was ready to deepen her political, economic and social ties with Ghana. He expressed the hope that the visit of President Mahama would take the co-operation between Ghana and Burkina Faso to a higher level.
