The project in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication, GIFC is expected to train more than 14,000 beneficiaries with basic digital skills in expanding their businesses.
The basic objective of the project is to close the digital skills gap between rural and urban communities in the country.
Speaking at a short ceremony to sign the Memorandum of Understanding for the project, Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu Ekuful hinted that without the requisite digital skills, many people will be denied the benefit of the various digital interventions by government.
The Minister also disclosed that government have received a credit facility to fund the construction of a rural telephony sites and internet connectivity infrastructure for more than 2,000 communities in the country.
The program which is expected to connect about three million citizens to internet access is expected to be completed in the next 18 months.
The project by the ITU with support from CISCO and the Norwegian government is to ensure that digital skill is no longer a barrier for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in developing economies.
The Digital Tansformation Centre will also be used by the World Food Programme to train some 1 million farmers and workers in the food value chain.
