The Government of Ghana has announced plans to evacuate its citizens from Iran in response to the deepening conflict between Israel and Iran.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the announcement via a social media post on Monday, 16 June, citing the protection of Ghanaian lives as the primary motivation behind the decision.
“The Mahama Administration has, in the interest of the protection of Ghanaian lives, decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict,” Mr Ablakwa stated.

He further revealed that Ghana’s embassy in Tehran had been closed with immediate effect to guarantee the safety of diplomatic staff.
The evacuation operation, which will be carried out through Iran’s land borders, covers all Ghanaian nationals in the country — including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.
Mr Ablakwa stressed the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of every Ghanaian, regardless of their location.
He also noted that the government is closely monitoring developments in Israel and will provide guidance in due course.
“In the interim, we have instructed that embassy operations in Tel Aviv be reduced to the barest minimum, and all Ghanaians in Israel must maintain close communication with our consular department,” he added.
The Minister concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s call for diplomacy, urging both nations to end hostilities and prioritise peaceful resolution.
