The Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence has not been fully used for the purpose for which it was built.
The FIFA sponsored edifice was meant to be the hub for nurturing young talents for the various national male and female teams.
As it stands now, the Soccer Center of Excellence, constructed 8 years ago only accommodates the national juvenile teams who go there for camping purposes.
Legendary coach and former chairman of the Ghana Football Association Ben Kouffie under whose tenure the Prampram project was developed was a guest on the JOY Sports Link and told host Nathaniel Attoh “the idea was for the place to become the base for identifying talents for the national teams.”
It has not served that purpose because the concentration has been on the national teams; it has become a home for national teams. But what we were supposed to do was to bring ordinary or raw talents there, take them through periodic training which should be established at the place, give them full concentration before they become national stars.”
The Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence is a FIFA Goal Project aimed at bridging the gap between the developed and advanced European countries in terms of sporting infrastructure.
In 2003, the GFA and FIFA signed a US$ 400,000 deal for the construction of the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence in Prampram, under strict FIFA monitoring and periodic reviews of work.
