The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says the country has recorded some 191 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total case count to 56,421.
According to the latest update on the Service's website, active cases now stand at 1,330 as against the 1,261 recorded on Monday, January 11, 2021.
Giving more details, GHS also said about 54,753 people have recovered or been discharged, with the death toll at 338.
The site also indicated that out of the active cases, some 42 people were in severe condition while 4 others were in critical condition.
Earlier, the Director of Public Health at GHS, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe had bemoaned the increasing number of confirmed cases in the country.
He had explained that this was due to an increase in the number of imported cases because of the reopening of airports and various celebrations during the festive season.
“Quite a number of our cases imported cases. We opened our airports and the data over the period, in the first month we had 47 cases. Then we recorded 98 cases, moved on to 126 and now we have over 300 cases.
“Before the X-mas, we had a press brief and encouraged Ghanaians that although X-mas is a time of togetherness, but in the era of Covid-19 it needs to be in moderation. So clearly, we are thinking that the celebration was a factor,” he said on JoyFM's Super Morning Show.
