Ghanaian coach Ofori Asare has been selected to serve on the African Boxing Confederation Coaches Committee.
The head trainer of Ghana’s amateur national team, the Black Bombers, is one of seven coaches nominated to serve on the committee.
Egyptian Nadia Mohammed is the head of the coaches committee while Tvhwem Justin, Azzedine Aggoune, Andile Mofu, Mpendulo Sunset Mbingo, and Benjamin Moses Oyombi are members.
Coach Asare has trained some of the finest Ghanaian boxers over the years, including Isaac Dogboe and 2020 Olympic Games medallist Samuel Takyi.
Reacting to his appointment, he told Joy Sports: “when I received the letter that I have been selected as part of the coaches committee, I was very ecstatic. I know it is not an easy thing, the whole Africa, being selected to be part of seven-member committee from Ghana.
“It's something that I have to first embrace, then make sure that I will be able to contribute my quota at this committee because all of Africa, we've been sidelined for long.”
Ofori Asare, who has acted as a facilitator at some of the biggest international seminars, is targeting turning around the situation of Africa in boxing.
“As an international instructor, I had the opportunity to go to some of the developed countries and developing countries and when I make some comparison, I know where we are,” he added.
“It's not an easy thing for Africa, and now the opportunity has come because most of the time, I advocate in terms of we trying to do our best to participate in some of these international committees to enable us to be able to work, to at least, uplift our level of development.”
