The Ghana Internet Services Providers Association (GISPA) says it supports the Presidents' nomination of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu for Minister of Communication. “Hon. Iddrisu, a lawyer by profession, has shown a healthy grasp of the complex issues around Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ghana. He has established a leadership role in the parliamentary process as a young lawmaker and his youthfulness is another important reason why he can stir the fast-paced and knowledge-based emerging ICT industry in Ghana.” A statement issued by the association said “Hon. Iddrisu comes to the job with a track record of delivery required to lead the industry. Ghana has developed a great ICT Policy and pretty good legislation in the past but we have lacked the ability to deliver on the good ideas we have on paper hence someone who can deliver being in the driving seat is most appropriate. Our proposition is for him to be supported by someone preferably from the industry who has not only technical credentials but also management expertise who can support his delivery ability.” “With the recent positive developments Ghana has made in terms of its ICT sector, we are keen to ensure this continues given the right leadership. The industry drivers, both service providers and consumers, look forward to a leader who will represent the best interest of Ghana and we are confident that the leadership commitment of Hon. Iddrisu makes him the ideal person for Minister of Communication.” The Ghana Internet Services Providers Association (GISPA, www.gispa.org.gh) is a non-profit trade corporation that represents the interest of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and those interested in the provision of Internet service in Ghana. Its focus is to grow the Internet locally through lobbying for the right policies, negotiating transparent and independent regulatory frameworks and building networks to enhance easy, reliable and affordable communication to the consumer. GISPA is currently made up of NCS Internet Ghana, AfricaOnline, IDN, Tin-Ifa, BusyInternet, Netplux, K-Net, Broadband Home, Easy-Net, Ecoband, NetAfrique, Gateway Communications, Discoverytel, Africanus, TeledataICT, ComsysGhana, iBurstAfrica, Internet Solutions, UCOM, Golden Beach Hotels and Tandem Networks.
