The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has inaugurated a 30-member council to facilitate proposals and policy actions for business growth and resilience.
President of the Chamber, Clement Osei-Amoako, highlighted the urgency of the council citing the impact of Covid-19 on businesses as well as the prospects of the Continental Free Trade Agreement.
“The unpleasant memory of the global pandemic on the business community has necessitated the need for businesses to rethink and reshape their way of doing things in order to remain relevant and competitive”.
“As a Chamber, we are also excited that the journey to opening up new market access opportunities to drive the needed economic growth and transformation of the African continent has begun, and the overwhelming interest and support by the private sector,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Technical Advisor to the Minister for Trade and Industry, K. Baafi, who spoke on behalf of the Minister, Alan Kyerematen – explained that despite a slow business recovery amid the global pandemic, government has developed a national AfCFTA Policy Framework for boosting trade and investment.
At the 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the chamber held on 21st October 2020, all the standing committees and council of the GNCCI were dissolved with the new National Officers elected to champion the activities of the Chamber.
This then necessitated the inauguration of the Council in line with the constitution of the chamber and the Legislative Instrument (L. I. 611).
The Council comprise; President of the GNCCI, Clement Osei Amoako; the two Vice-Presidents of the Chamber, National Treasurer, one representative selected by each Regional Chamber for every 40 fully paid-up members or part thereof in such regional Chamber, among others.
