Technical assessment to determine if the substance gushing out from a hand dug well at Jumbo in the Nkwanta North district of the Volta region, is likely to last three weeks.
A technical team from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation on Saturday began taking samples of the liquid for analyses.
News about the oil find broke Friday when a man digging a borehole saw it gushing out.
Ato Cobbie of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the GNPC told Joy News though they had been conducting exploratory activities along the Volta Basin, the public must manage their expectations.
Meanwhile the District Chief Executive for the area Paul Livingstone Dzato said the oil was still gushing out from the borehole as at Saturday morning.
He told Joy News the population in the community is not too large and security personnel detailed there are comfortably managing the situation.
