Vincent Torgah emerged champion of the 2021 edition of the Gold Fields PGA Championship. The event came off at the Damang Golf Course between December 1 and 4.
Torgah secured a record 20-under to win the event for the third time in his professional career.
A member of the Centre of the World Golf Club, he started on a promising note and never looked back, beating last year’s winner Lucky Ayisah to clinch the coveted title.
"It wasn’t easy but I kept my tempo trying to stay focused throughout the tournament. My mentality helped me a lot. I prepared, worked hard and my friends also helped me a lot to keep going”, Torgah told JoySports after being crowned champion.
Vincent Torgah took home a cheque of GHS 40,000 while winner in the senior’s category, Robert Degbe received a cash reward of GHS10, 000 Ghana Cedis.
Amponsah Quining, who became the first golfer to break the ‘Hole-in-One’ record on hole 17, received GHS 20,000.
Alfred Baku, Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, is happy with the company’s 8-year partnership with the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana.
“We are happy in the sense that, the investment we have made into this whole tournament, we’re seeing a return on it. We have had some of our professional golfers competing in and winning international tournaments in the last eight years," Mr. Baku said
