Minister for Natural Resources, Works and Housing, Collins Dauda, has indicated that beneficiaries of the government affordable houses currently under construction will follow laid down guidelines in acquiring the houses.
Speaking to JOY NEWS, Collins Dauda, noted that having affordability in mind, arrangements will be looked at where beneficiaries would be able to pay within a period of time.
He therefore confirmed that government is holding discussions with mortgage companies and other financial institutions to put up guidelines that will enable workers acquire the houses.
The Minister's comment followed Government's partnership with a Brazilian construction firm, Construtora OAS, in starting the construction of a five thousand housing units for Ghanaians.
The project is sited at Old Ningo in the Greater Accra region and Government is hopeful that when the project is complete, it will ease the accommodation burden facing Ghanaians.
At a sod-cutting ceremony, President John Mahama noted that the financing structure in owning the houses would be done through mortgages and other financial instruments for lower and middle income level holders.
The project, he noted would be made available to Ghanaian workers as government has negotiated with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to take over the housing units and sell them out to the public.
President Mahama was therefore confident that by the year 2016, Ghanaians will have better housing units.
