Government has inaugurated a nine member Governing Council for the Ghana Telecom University College, its first major step towards insulating the University from Vodafone’s control. Government has also tasked the Council to, by the end of this year, determine whether the college could be autonomous instead of remaining a faculty of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Haruna Iddrissu, communications minister said, “Government inaugurated the Governing Council of the Ghana Telecom University as a first major step in spanning of the university from Vodafone’s control. “And government has an understanding with Vodafone on the future of the Ghana Telecom University,” he said He said the council was charged to develop a “legislation that will establish an ICT University of excellence in Ghana Telecom University.
