An Executive Director for Purim African Youth Development Platform, Rev. Aku Xornam Adzraku-Kevi, has called on the Akufo-Addo-led government to improve on the implementation of policies to address the prevailing economic hardship.
She said Ghanaians are struggling to survive.
Rev Xornam bemoaned the fact that government is more focused on politics than the lives of citizens.
Speaking on Prime Morning on Joy Prime on issues relating to gender, employment, and migration, the Executive Director believes the inefficient implementation of policies is the major reason for the increase in rural-urban migration.
"In this difficult season in the country with high inflation and all that, our government should sit up; we’re struggling.
"Fuel is going up and down; we don’t have dollars, euros,… The only thing we have is to make the systems work. There is a lot of struggle out there in most of these rural communities. People are struggling," she told Roselyn Felli.
She posited that if the needed policies are not introduced, rural-urban migration will never stop in the country.
"If we do not work on our policies and ensure the adequate redistribution of resources and all that, and other regions do not get what they need, they would come down south," she said on Monday.
She also urged migrants to carefully examine the purpose of their migration before making the final decision, so as to avoid difficulties upon arrival at the planned destination.
Rev. Aku Xornam urged people who may be interested in traveling overseas, but do not really have any purpose to stay and work towards the betterment of themselves and the nation.
"Stay here and pursue an assignment so that you can get something out of your life," she advised.
Although the government has helped improve women’s empowerment, she believes they can do better if they "move beyond politics to implement policies."
